Adjust "on loud sound" sensitivity?

by unmighty on Sun Apr 05, 2020 4:45 pm

I put together the "No-Touch Hand Wash Timer" from the adafruit tutorials (https://learn.adafruit.com/no-touch-han ... x-and-clue), but I've found that the timer is too easily triggered by any sounds, even just talking nearby. Is there a way to change the sensitivity so that it responds to something like a clap but not to a regular speaking voice?

I was looking at the "sound level" input (https://makecode.adafruit.com/reference ... ound-level), but I couldn't figure out how if that's what I need to use instead or how I could get that to trigger an event similar to the "on loud sound" function.

Thanks for any suggestions!

You should be able to replicate the on_loud_sound block with something like this (you'll then be able to adjust that number to your liking):

Thank you! I ended up setting the sound value to 200 and that has been working well for ignoring ambient noise but picking up a clap to start the timer.
