Clue and BBC u:bit - any chance at.....

I look at the CLUE BLE HID support, and see a wonderful library. Programming it looks clear, etc. I then look at the comparable stuff for the BBC u:bit. Its is at least one level lower down, and at least some of it is deprecated, or discontinued, won't compile on the mbed toolchain, as well as the alternate toolchains default compiler, etc.

Is there any chance I could get the CLUE code to work on its older cousin? Yea, I expect it will require some brute force, and redefining all the pin assignments, etc, but...

For the application I am trying to develop, the uBit is just about perfect. it has just enough of the IO I need, and not a bunch of other things that don't apply. To make it an even better fit, the expected consumer of the code is British, and thus has the one that their 12 year old is now bored with sitting around the house. (they do need two, but the second one is only a tenner, and I bet could be snagged used for spare change at a car boot sale)
