portable mp3 Player with external storage

by sanchothefat on Tue Sep 08, 2009 7:05 am

Hi there,

I was googling for an arduino mp3 shield and found the wave shield. What I
want to do is make an mp3 player with only some controls, a headphone out
and a usb-in socket that I can plug a usb stick into that has mp3s on it.
Hope that makes sense. The end goal is to hollow out an old walkman and
build the device inside it, and then to use it with the cassette shaped usb
drives from http://makeamixa.com

Is the wave shield suitable? Can you suggest a way to do this if not? I just
need poitning in the right direction. I've seen some chips with mp3 decoders
on. Is that the sort of thing I'd be looking at?

Thanks for any help you an give me :)
