Mini Bluetooth Keyboard and Pi Zero GPIO

by EdwinSL101 on Fri Sep 13, 2019 1:38 pm

Hello! I have a question regarding the mini bluetooth keyboard. (ID: 3601)

Link: https://www.adafruit.com/product/3601

I am building a portable mini laptop, and I want everything to be powered using one 2500mah lipo battery. So I was wondering, if I take out the battery that the mini keyboard uses, could I connect the keyboard to a 3.3v pin and GND pin found on the Pi Zero? Here are the power specs of the keyboard:

Rating: 3.7v
Min: 5uA
Max: 3mA

If that's the case, would I need to add something to the circuit to protect the Pi Zero and the keyboard from any possible danger?

And another quick question. The 3.3v would be considered positive and GND as negative, right?

Thank you!

In theory, yes.

In practice, the keyboard has an internal LiPo, which means it also has an internal charger. You might have to disable some of that circuit to use an external power source. You're welcome to give it a try, but that kind of mod is what our NeoPixel guru calls a 'profoundly warranty-voiding operation'.
