6 Flags project

by JDM4006 on Wed Sep 11, 2019 3:22 pm

I need help with building my shopping cart for a project. We are making a concrete dragon at 6 flags America that will be resting on an archway. We want to have ridiculous bright LED RED glowing eyes (constant on) and an orange/yellow LED/light pad same brightness as eyes but in the mouth like it’s preparing to shoot fire. We need about 50’ of cord for the A.C. plug in to the eyes and same for the mouth. I’m not sure what to buy due to not knowing a thing about output wattage/amps etc and what can handle what voltage. Just want two light up eyes and a slow pulsing light in the mouth either all powered together or separate. Can you guys help us please? We want to be able to keep it plugged in and put on a timer along with a smoke machine that will blow smoke out the mouth.

I emailed super bright LEDs .com but they were short and sent random links and were no help at all. We need this information as soon as possible and we’d pay extra for the information. We’re not electricians. Just artists =]

You might want to put a posting on https://jobs.adafruit.com/ looking for some freelance help.

Sounds like a cool project. If you control it all with a microcontroller board, you could coordinate the smoke generation with the lighting and fun things like that.

We carry several forms of LEDs that might work.
These are RGB LEDs

Is there anyone who could help us with exactly what to buy and how to hook it up? I don’t know how to hook them leds up to an A.C. adapter that will be about 50’ long so we can plug them in.

You could post a job on the jobs board and see what you get.

Google shows quite a few maker spaces in the Baltimore /Washington /Annapolis region. There is sure to be someone interested in helping with your project if you ask. I would love to help but live on the other side of the Chesapeake.

As for hardware for the lights the Pixies https://www.adafruit.com/product/2741 are about the brightest you will find here. The Neopixel Jewel https://www.adafruit.com/product/2741 could also work for a more spread out effect. You will also need a 5 volt microcontroller https://www.adafruit.com/product/2590 , suitable power supply https://www.adafruit.com/product/658 and a relay https://www.adafruit.com/product/3191 if you want to trigger the smoke.

BTW love your park.
