Momentary Cap. Touch malfunction?

by chardane on Wed Nov 06, 2019 3:00 am

Hello!

I just got this Standalone Momentary Capacitive Touch Sensor Breakout - AT42QT1010 https://www.adafruit.com/product/1374

I attached a coin cell battery to the GND and VDD pins appropriately. The onboard LED lights up, but it stays lit up even after I stop touching it.

This is an unlisted video showing the LED staying on: https://youtu.be/GW-_3Z_t3VQ

I did notice when i opened it that there's a blob of solder in the middle pad next to the "MODE" label (the product photos do not have this blob), but that little blob shouldn't be a issue right?

Please let me know if I'm doing something wrong?

Thanks!

If you touch the pad again, does the led turn off?

One thing to keep in mind is that these sensors self-calibrate on power up. So you should keep your hands away from the sensor when you apply power.

Hello Bill,

Thanks for the reply!

If you touch the pad again, does the led turn off?

No, if I touch the pad again, the LED does NOT turn off.

One thing to keep in mind is that these sensors self-calibrate on power up. So you should keep your hands away from the sensor when you apply power.

I tried kept my fingers and any other conductive material away from the board as i was powering it up, still no change, the LED still stays lit up even after waiting more than 30 seconds after applying power.

I also noticed that it takes about 56 seconds for the LED to turn off after touching the pad, and that the OUT pin does not seem to go high when touching the pad. Do you think there is a way i can fix it, or is it a lost cause at this point?
