Hello all. I’m looking for help in building a motion activated tape light for my stairs. I’ve seen it done on YouTube and have no idea how to do it myself. Below is a link to the video I watched that I want to recreate. I am looking for a list of products I need to purchase to complete this project. I am an electrician so installing won’t be a problem for me, I’m just not a tech savvy person. Thank you..

Re: Stair lighting
Let's see, you would want several ultrasonic sensors (4007)
Dotstar, cool white, 30 or 60 pixels per meter (2432)
Some Itsy-Bitsy RP2040 (4888)
and, of course power and wire. That should get you going.

Re: Stair lighting
Thank you for the help. Do I need an Arduino or any other hardware to make this work? For example, something to speed up or slow down the flow of light? I know basically nothing about this kind of thing so as much input as you have would be great. Thank you.

Re: Stair lighting
The Itsy-Bitsy is an Adafruit board that is a microprocessor similar to the Arduino but smaller and more powerful. you should look at the product description but I don't think, for this project, you need a very powerful micro.

Re: Stair lighting
Do you have any Dotstar 144 led per meter in warm white without the weather proof covering and can you provide it in custom lengths?
