Problem with Eagle CAD and the TL082 opamp

by shobley on Tue Mar 10, 2009 4:40 pm

Hi,

I've been learning Eagle CAD, and I recently tried to generate a board from a schematic with a TL082 opamp IC in it. The only problem is the power lines are not shown in the schematic, so I can't get it to hook up.

When I select the part it has power pins in the preview, but none on the schematic when placed. Is there a trick to getting this to show up?

I've not really used Eagle to create anything, just view existing projects and sometimes alter them for PCB printouts, but after about 5 minutes poking around at the tools I think you can do it by using the "invoke" tool, which looks like four NAND gates, at the lower-right of the second group of tools on the leftside toolbar.

Select that tool, then click on the opamp (or other part) you want to show the power/ground pins on.

A dialog pops up with that IC's available placeable pins/sections, anything unavailable is greyed out. Select the part you want, then left click on the schematic part you want to place it at. You probably don't even have to place them on the actual op-amp on the schematic to work, but it's easier to keep track of what they're for if you do.

EDIT: PS--how's the Dalek coming?

I was a little afraid you'd given up on it, and that was why this story happened:
