Hello. Let's me start by saying I know nothing about electronics. I do have a fairly simple project though.
I am looking to connect 7 of these motors https://www.adafruit.com/products/1201.
All 7 will be running at a time but only for about 10 minutes or so. Periodically.
I have two problems that I need help with ...
1) What power source should I connect these motors to? I would like 3v because the vibration is good for my application. Also, if you recommend a battery I would need it to last a decent amount of time. Like I said all 7 motors will be running at once for about 10 min, maybe 20 times a day. I stripped a wire from a lamp and connected it to the vibrating motor causing the motor blow up. That just gives you an idea of the knowledge level I have with electronics.
2) I need to connect all these motors to some sort of switch that I can turn on and off. All the motors should be connected that that one switch.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Like I said I know nothing but I'm fairly confident this is a simple project.

Re: Newbie, Need help connecting 7 vibrating motors to a pow
At 3v, these motors draw 60mA. With 7 of them wired in parallel, you will need 60mA * 7 = 420mA. If you run them for a total of 200 minutes per day, that is 1400mAh. A pair of AA alkaline batteries would last you about a day-and-a-half. Another option would be to use a 3.7v LiPo cell.
That would give you a slightly stronger vibration and a slightly higher current draw (about 520mA). But LiPo cells are available in much higher capacities and are rechargeable. A 6600mAh LiPo pack would run for 3-4 days.

Re: Newbie, Need help connecting 7 vibrating motors to a pow
Hi Bill thanks for the information. Is there any way I can hook these motors up to a plug so I don't need to worry about buying batteries?
I was hoping to be able to hook them up to a plug with an on and off switch. I just don't know the safe way to do that. As I said I stripped a wire from a lamp and hooked it up to one of the motors and it blew up.

I actually just found this product...
https://www.adafruit.com/products/1448
If I hook the motors up to this plug and set the voltage to 3 they won't have a problems running correct?

That one would work. You will need 1.4A at 3v and that is capable of up to 1.5A.
You can use this in-line switch to turn them on-and-off. https://www.adafruit.com/products/1125
