Powerboost 1000C low battery external LED

Post by Yalfmaster »

Hi,
I understand that we can connect an led to the LBO and GND output to get the low battery indicator.
So if I'm right, when the battery get low, the external led should get off isn't it ?

Also my main issue is that as soon as I connect the led (from the mechanical momentary button from this market) the low battery internal LED stay on (I connect minus to GND and positive to LBO)

And if fact I simply want to get an external LED that switch on when the battery get low, I don't know if I can solder directly on the internal LED pin without removing it or if I must remove it or stay on the output LBO & GND but do something else...

I hope that I'm enough understandable, English is not my fisrt language and I'm not really used to electrical "engineering" so thanks for your support !

No. The LBO pin is at VBAT by defaut and is pulled to GND to indicate low battery.

You need to connect your LED between VBAT and LBO. You should also add a current limiting resistor in series with your LED.

I made a mistake in the powerboost name ! I'm using the 1000c so should I connect it to the Lipo output then ?
Thanks again for the fast answer

You can connect to the pin labeled BAT. https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-pow ... power-pins

The positive plot from the LED should be solder on the BAT pin and the negative on the LBO is that right ? I don't want to mess up the battery or something as my battery is fully charged I can't check for the moment if it's working ^^
Thanks for your help !

Yes, but don't forget that you need a current limiting resistor in series with the LED also.

Yep! I use the button with built-in resistor https://www.adafruit.com/products/481 I assume it's ok then, like I said my battery is charged right now so I can't check if it's working so connecting like we said now the led will be off and should get on when the battery is low ? or the led stay on and get of when the battery get low ? i want to confirm every step with you and thanks again !

That should be fine. The LED should turn on when the battery is low.

I'm trying to build an led status indicator using the Powerboost 1000c. Plan on using https://www.adafruit.com/product/3105 as power switch and https://www.adafruit.com/product/2739 as RGB led. The Powerboost 1000c already has port for Low battery as previously mentioned. Power indicator would be showing it's status via led within power switch but how would I go about pulling signal to determine charging and full status? While I could directly solder to the led's on the board I would rather use existing pins instead.

I second this-- it would be nice if the charged indicator was a pin. We could use them for display status. As LEDs, they're not useful at all.
