Battery power for Rick & Morty portal gun

by MrBelm on Tue Apr 04, 2017 4:09 pm

I built a Rick & Morty portal gun based on this design:

http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1100601

and this code:

https://github.com/pomeroyb/PortalGun

It uses a 5V 16 Mhz Pro Trinket with the LiPoly BackPack and a 3.7V LiPoly battery.

The problem I've encountered is that the LCD display (Quad Alphanumeric Display (Red 0.54")) lights up when the circuit is plugged into the Trinket's USB connection, but it doesn't light up when the circuit runs off the battery. I've charged the battery to full charge, but still no working LED. What could be an explanation for this behavior?

Post a photo showing your hardware and connections and we'll take a look. 800x600 images usually work best.

I breadboarded and tested the circuit before final wiring. Here's the final layout:

Move the connection to the Perma Proto's VCC rail from the Pro Trinket's 5v pin to the BAT pin.

The 5v pin only gets power when a USB cable is connected. The BAT pin will have power at all times.

Other than that, your construction looks excellent.. well organized and very easy to read.
