Touch Switch Momentary

Post by drewsonian »

I am pretty new to this, and I'm interested in using your momentary touch switch sensor to control my under cabinet lights. I'm using the Fibaro RGBW to control LED strips (Adafruit's btw :-D) and I believe what I need is to connect your AT42QT1010 module to a relay that simply closes the GND and IN pins on the Fibaro. Does that sound right? I know you don't carry the Fibaro unit but if I need something that simply closes a circuit, is it a relay that I need? If so, any suggestions on which one or what else might do the trick?

There are several ways to do that kind of thing, but relays are one option.

What voltage and current do your lights use?

The LED lights are 12V and the LED strips will draw around 6-8 amps when turned on fully, I believe.

You can also use mosfets for those:

They're faster and more durable than relays.

Thanks - and if I have 12V available, how do I run the momentary touch switch since it takes 1.8 to 5.5VDC ?

You'd need a 5v regulator like this one:

https://www.adafruit.com/product/2236

along with a couple of capacitors to keep the voltage stable.. one at the input, and one at the output. The datasheet linked from the Technical Details section of the page above has a digram that shows what you'll need (page 4).
