I am from BANNED .I am doing a project related to house hold electricity which is 220-220 volt here .
I would like to know for controlling the bulbs using microcontroller which is better to use ? A relay or IRF540 N mosfet

For AC the relay would be an easier solution.

Not to mention the IRF540 is only rated at 100V and cannot be used to switch AC as far as I know.
