Flora unable to power on using 3.7v 2500mAh Lithium Ion Poly

Post by jasony2016 »

Hello,

I am working on a project similar to the Florabrella. Following the tutorial, I am trying to power the Flora using the 3.7V, 2500mAh Lithium Ion Polymer battery. Unfortunately, I am currently unable to get the Flora to boot up using the battery as the power source.

May I please receive help in troubleshooting Flora? Thank you!

Circumstances:
[*]Using USB connection to laptop: Flora boots up and is programmable. Green power LED, "pin" #7 red LED, orange RX LED, and orange TX LED all turn on (when applicable) when Flora is connected via USB.[/*]
[*]USB battery connection via JST connector: Flora does not boot up, no LEDs turn on.[/*]

Troubleshooting:
[*]Fully recharged the LiPoly battery via the LiPoly charger. The charger was plugged into my laptop's USB port. The charger had the red Charge light on when charging. That turned to green when charging was complete.[/*]
[*]Multimeter shows that the LiPoly battery was charged to 4.19V. This was measured at the 2 terminals on the battery's JST connector. This tells me the battery is charged.[/*]
[*]Multimeter shows Flora's JST connector is receiving 4.19V when the battery is plugged in. This was measured at the back end of Flora's JST where the JST pins are exposed, making it easy for measurement. This tells me that Flora is receiving enough power.[/*]
[*]Flora powers on when connected via USB and without any battery connection. Green power LED, red "pin" 7 LED, and the orange RX/TX LEDs all light up when applicable.[/*]
[*]Flora receives and transmits data. This was shown by uploading the Neopixel strandtest to Flora. Flora received it without any issues and the Neopixels (connected via alligator clips) displayed a colorful light show without any issues[/*]

Check the slide switch: the battery power goes through that, and if it's in the OFF position, the Flora won't run.

Woah! I completely missed the switch! I did not know about it. Thank you very much for your help!

It's easy to forget about. ;-)

Glad to hear that did it. Happy hacking!
