Hey!
Could anybody tell me how to wire one of these switches so that it lights up AND turns my laser on?...
https://www.adafruit.com/product/1476?g ... HqEALw_wcB
I can get the switch to light up. Or get the laser to turn on.
I messed with the wiring and got it to work, but it burned out within a couple minutes... Does this switch not handle 3.7 volts? I'm using a little lipo battery.
Thanks for your help!!
Bryan

$10 by paypal to anybody who can help :)
I'm really wanting to get this wiring right so I don't burn out another switch (or another laser diode).

Doh! I forgot to post the link to the adafruit product page. This is the switch I'm referring to:

Thanks!

Re: big project - badly need help with on/off switch wiring.
This is what they say:
The body is a black plastic with the LED built inside. There are two contacts for the button and two contacts for the LED, one marked + and one -. The forward voltage of the LED is about 3V so connect a 220 to 1000 ohm resistor in series just as you would with any other LED to your 3V or higher power supply.
This particular button has a blue body and LED and is latching on/off. The two switch contacts are either connected or disconnected. When you push the button they will switch from one to the other, like an on-off switch. The LED is separated from the button, so you can make it light up when on, light up when off, always lit, etc.
so first you have to connect the laser from ground ( - battery) to button contact ; lets call it A;( without + or - sign) and the other button contact ( lets call it B) to + battery.
Then laser should go on and off now. Note that the laser has also a + and - contact.
Then connect - LED contact to - battery.
Then connect + LED contact to a resistor 220 to 1000 ohm.
The other pin of the resistor goes then to contact A.
Switching on cause contact A to get + battery there ( from contact B).
Hence contact A supplies the LED and the Laser simultaneously.

Re: big project - badly need help with on/off switch wiring.
No it is not correct
You need to exchange polarity of laser and + and - contacts of the switch!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Note that a + contact of battery should always go + contact (sometimes also called Vcc) of a device
The resistor serves as current limiter; it has no polarity and + voltage is transferred to the + contact of the switch led.

Thanks for the diagram, although Im not sure Im interpreting it correctly. I know positive goes to positive and all that. But in particular, I have no clue how to wire in the resistor even after studying ur drawing (sorry).

The resistor has two wires ?
One goes to A and theb other to + . That is what the drawing shows.
Which one does not matter.

Re: big project - badly need help with on/off switch wiring.
Thanks, ok, so the same way I had the resistor wired in my last drawing. I thought you were trying to show something different.
So this would be the correct overall wiring?...
