NEMA 17 Stepper Ingress Protection

by inconspicuousBadger on Tue Feb 12, 2019 1:06 pm

Hello,

I am currently working on a project that involves water, and would like to incorporate the Adafruit NEMA 17 stepper motors (Product ID: 324) as part of the control system. Since the project may periodically leak, I'm concerned about water damage on the stepper motors. Is there an available Ingress Protection (IP) rating available for the Adafruit NEMA 17 stepper motor?

For my application, a rating of IPX4 is sufficient, but I would like to know if I should invest in a separate case for the steppers or if I can leave them exposed.

If anyone has tested the Adafruit NEMA 17 with water or has information on its IP rating, I'd appreciate any information you have.

Thanks!

The bearings on these motors are not sealed and we do not have an IP rating for them. For IP rated motors, I'd try one of the industrial sources such as Lin Engineering or Automation Direct.
