Long Range Network (~1 mile)

Looking for a long range network to turn on and off irrigation wells on a farm. Each location would need to simply control 1-2 relays. Would like to also measure pressure, voltage, a-c current, and maybe flow rate at each location.

Would a Feather M0 with RFM95 LoRa Radio - 900MHz - RadioFruit, or a raspberry pi zero with a Adafruit LoRa Radio Bonnet be good platforms? I think I would prefer the raspberry pi all things equal.

1 mile is within the range of what LoRa can do but you'll likely need good antennas and line-of-site.

Is Lora Necessary for this Range? Pros/Cons vs WIFI? Power is not an issue..

Either will work fine. Your choice will be in whether you want a "controller" or a "computer"

You would need a more expensive antenna to get 1 mile range for WiFi. If you do some searching, you'll see direction antenna kits for WiFi routers. It looks like you can get the antenna for well below $100 each. You could set up a WiFi bridge using those. You'll still need line-of-sight and you'll probably have to spend a few hundred dollars to get everything working. Ubiquiti sells some turn-key WiFi bridge systems that are competitively priced.

There are several ways to so this. It's just a matter of you budgets for time, money, and complexity.

Looking for appropriate enclosures. If I mount inside the the existing pump control panels (https://motorsandcontrol.com/brands/siemens-furnas/motor-starters-contactors/siemens-pump-panels/) I was thinking of using the Small Plastic Project Enclosure - Weatherproof with Clear Top. This will be extreme hot and cold environments (10-110 *F ambient temperature depending on season. Definitely hotter in the pump control panel). Is temperature a concern here? Also would need to run the LoRa cable through the enclosure and the pump control panel (any suggestions for mounting an antenna to the pump control panel?).

All of the existing panels are 480V, so I am planning to use a transformer to convert to 110V to power the Feather. The relay FeatherWing is only rated up to 240V, so I also need another contact to complete the 480V circuit to complete the pump control circuit. Is there a simpler method here?

Thinking of running the 3.3V on the M0 Feather through this relay and back to on of the GPIO pins of the M0 Feather. Is this a legitimate method for getting a hi/low signal to the Feather? Do I need to fuse this signal? Do I need to buffer the signal?

That is a 120 VAC relay coil and would not work. Most relays will not work directly from the Feather because the current needed is more than the Feather can supply.

I'm not looking to energize the relay with the feather. I'm trying to figure a creative way to get a 3v signal to the feather......

If you are looking to get the relay output to the Feather it would be better to run between the GPIO pin and ground with a pull-up resistor. You would not need any resistor in the relay line.

I've had to set this project aside for a while and I'm just getting back to it.

If I understand you correctly I would Create a circuit from the 3V supply on the feather, through a resistor, through the normally closed relay to the ground. The GPIO pin would be connected between the resistor and relay. Is this correct?
