1586 light ring

by ddgjim on Fri Apr 26, 2019 4:21 pm

I'm working on a project and trying to create sample display jars that will have a white LED light ring in the cap. The 1586 ring seems to be the right size, but I don't know how to power it. The jars will be sitting on a counter and I need a way to power the light with rechargable battery power. Also need a way to turn the light on an off. Would like to have them turn on when the jar is picked up, and turn off when the jar is placed back on the counter.
Can you suggest which products I should purchase to make this happen. I'm working on a proto type now and will need to make 50 jars once I get everything figured out.
I appreciate any help you can give me.
Thanks,
Jim

Neopixels can be powered with a power source between 3.7v and 5.v. For portable projects, a 3.7v LiPo battery is ideal.

However, just a power source will not light them up. You need a microcontroller programmed to send them commands to light up. Something like an M0 Trinket or Feather M0 would be good choices. The Feather is a bit more expensive, but has a built-in LiPo battery charger.
