I'm working on the same thing. I want to build a set of goggles with light-activated iris diaphragms. Did you ever finish yours? Any more pictures?

I threw out the idea of using a servo early on in my planning. What I'm currently thinking of using is a solenoid powered through an H-bridge controlled by a voltage divider formed by a photoresistor (for light sensing) and a potentiometer (for sensitivity adjustment). This avoids using a microcontroller and should allow the electronics to be quite small. A small DC motor with endstops should work too.

I'm currently working on the leaf geometry for the iris diaphragm, hoping to remedy the internet's disturbing lack of information on this topic. There's a recent render of my work on youtube, I'm posting updates on twitter, and when I get a successful test build, I'll post the designs on my thingiverse profile.
