USB device not recognized

by gingle on Mon Jul 29, 2019 1:42 pm

I am building a new board based on Metro M4 Express. I was able to build the M4 Express UF2 files and successfully and program a Metro M4 Express board with "bootloader-metro-m4-v3.7.0.bin and the US-4.0.2.uf2 files which work properly. When I load the bootloader.bin file on my new board Win10 reports "USB device not recognized". I am using the identical connections to the flash chip (GD25QCTIGR) as M4 Express (PA08-PA11, PB10,PB11) and USB connections D- = PA24, D+ = PA25. I am not using the external 32 KHz crystal. My other M4 pins are connected to various peripherals. Can you suggest a method to troubleshoot the problem? Can you direct me to the source for "bootloader-metro-m4-v3.7.0.bin" on Git Hub?

You need the crystal to keep the microcontroller’s clock in sync with the USB keep-alive interval, or to use the keep-alive pulses to sync the microcontroller’s clock to the USB host.

Either way, it sounds like a sync issue.

I added the crystal circuit which runs normally at 32.768KHz. I also downloaded the boot + UF2 metro_M4_express code to my board. When I first plug the USB in I get two red flashes and the red led goes out. USB is still not recognized. When I do a double reset I see a ramped red led on and off. USB still not recognized. Is there a way to check the sync? I have a USB breakout board.

Mike, I added the crystal circuit which runs normally at 32.768KHz. I also reversed the D+, D- leads and everything works OK now. Why is it always something dumb!

No worries.. electronics is overflowing with problems whose solutions only seem obvious *after* you find them. The only part that really matters is finding them. ;-)
