LIPO/Li-ion Charger

by mdld on Wed Jul 31, 2019 5:05 am

Hello,

Can you help me understand how to charge a Li-ion battery using an adafruit charger. I bought a MCP73833 LIPO/Li-ion Charger (3.7/4.2V) from Amazon and I think I have fried it by using it incorrectly. There are two battery ports and I tried to plug one into each port, it seems that this was a mistake as it started smoking and burning. I guess I need a new one, but can you tell me if there is something special I need to know, for example do the two battery ports on this charger have different purposes? One has BATT printed next to it and the other has LOAD printed next to it. Please help :-)

Those batteries have the wrong connector polarity.

There are two ways to arrange the wires in a JST-PH2 connector, and you can find both versions for sale online.

The Charger has + and - markings near the battery and load connectors. The LiPo’s red wire needs to be on the side with the +.
