stereo - i2s mems microphone breakouts (SPH0645LM4H)

by heez on Thu Aug 08, 2019 3:36 am

I wired up two microphones as shown in the picture (same as the wiring shown here -- https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-i2s ... g-and-test)
but i used arduino bluefruit feather M0 instead of raspberry pi

But it keeps making screeching high pitched noises & distorted voice sounds whenever I connect it stereo.
(when I connect each microphone separately in mono, it sounds fine)

I thought it was a soldering problem so i tested it out by disconnecting one mic at a time, but both microphones work fine (without any noises) when I do that

any help would be appreciated!:)

Sounds like a feedback issue. Lower the volume and make sure that the microphones and speakers are pointing away from each other.

I’m not sure if I understand you correctly.

There is no speakers hooked up to my circuit! I am bringing in serial data saved in a text file using CooTerm and i read&coverted the file to a .wav file in matlab!

I am using two i2s microphones connected to arduino bluefruit feather m0. I wanted to make it stereo so I wired them as shown on the website.

If there are no speakers, where is the screeching coming from?

I am using my Bluetooth headphones to listen to the saved .wav file!

It’s not just the screeching noises. When I record my voice it sounds extremely distorted!
But when I record it mono with each microphone and listen to it, it sounds fine

Please post some photos showing how you have everything hooked up.

what if you only wire each one, and remove the other - do you get left and right independant channels? it could be the two are trying to send data on the same channel

Yes when I wire each one and remove the other one, it works fine! (I can’t tell if they are recording to left or right channel though but it’s bringing in data without any problem)

If it’s trying to send data to the same channel, how can I make it so that they are sending it to left or right?!

you'd need to record 'stereo' (which is whatcha want) and then listen to left or right channel only :)
