Xbee proximity

Post by shizman »

Hi everyone,

Does anyone know of a way to determine the proximity of 2 Xbees? Alternatively, anything that can determine proximity would work. I have 2 Arduinos and want to try to figure out where they are in relation to each other.

Thanks!

RSSI is the value of signal strength that the xbees report. Is that what you need?

I suppose I'm looking for something that can give me units of measure for distance. E.g. a given RSSI value means x inches/feet. I don't suppose this is possible?

Are there any hardware solutions that can do this that I can interface with using my Arduino?

What kind of distances are you considering?

Hard to say, but I'd like something that works between 1 foot and 20-50 feet. Is there a way to determine orientation as well? I assume a magnetometer will do this?
