LED skipping rope

by Cosine84 on Sat Aug 17, 2019 5:20 am

Hi i am new to the forum and im looking at making a DIY LED skipping rope for show purposes similar to something like this.

https://youtu.be/0eENUIGnU7g

Or something like this https://www.instagram.com/p/BvjPCUvguws ... n8t13itwta

Ideally i would like to power the LEDs by coin batteries as normal AA batteries are kinda weighty for a jumprope and if possible with a switch.

What items or recommended items I would need from here in order to create this?

Coin cells don't hold anywhere near enough energy to run a full strip of RGB LEDs. You'll need something like 2200mAh LiPo cells in the handles:

The videos linked above don't show much beyond LEDs flying around in the dark, so the construction details are mostly unknown.

The nearest likely match would be a strip like this running down the center of a clear vinyl tube:

I wanted to create something similar to this.

https://buyjumpropes.net/usb-rechargeab ... jump-rope/

This rope uses 2 coin batteries to light up the rope (the battery holder is contained in that small box). Rope in question is 9". What i wanted to know is what components would they use to make that small power source?

The page linked above lists:

Recharge with USB cord (included)

and standard coin cells aren't rechargeable.

There are rechargeable lithium coin cells:

but we don't happen to carry them any more.

Thats fine, i was more making a query on what components i would need to create a power source similar to the rope i linked as it is small enough to stick on a rope to light up the LED strips. I know there will be some kind of coin battery holder in there, what else would be used in creating that circuit?

I guess the real question is, what components can i use in order to power up a 5v USB RGB led strip? Im planning to wrap the strip in a clear pvc tubing for the skipping rope.
