Serial terminal with RPi and iOS Bluefruit app

by bobthechemist on Sat Aug 17, 2019 11:07 am

I am trying to establish a bluetooth serial terminal connection between my iPad and a RPi 3 or RPi Zero-W. I know in principle tablet/phone to RPi connection is possible as I have done it with an Android phone and a variety of serial terminal apps available in the app store. There's something missing when trying to do the same thing with an iOS device, though.

With much fiddling, I was able to follow the instructions here https://www.hackster.io/inmyorbit/build-a-mobile-app-that-connects-to-your-rpi-3-using-ble-7a7c2c to make my Raspberry Pi visible through the Bluefruit app on iOS. Is it possible to extend this idea to a fully functional terminal?

(Additional, although maybe irrelevant in this case, is that I can follow these instructions https://hacks.mozilla.org/2017/02/headless-raspberry-pi-configuration-over-bluetooth/ to successfully get the RPi to be a Bluetooth speaker for the iPad)

What program are you using on the iPad to communicate with the RasPi's BLE interface?
