Adafruit sound board headache

by Proteus1985 on Tue Aug 20, 2019 11:12 am

Hi everyone.

I’m desperate for help. Almost at the point of giving up.

I have the 2mb mini sound fx board by adafruit, and despite reading the setting up page, watching videos, checking and double checking I can not get this thing to play one sound, checked the amp and it’s working fine, it’s just this sound board, when I make contact with a ground nothing happens, no sound, and no little red light that indicates somethings happening. All files are labelled correctly, I’m at my wits end. Please could some one help me.

Thank you in advanced

Audio FX Sound Board, wi phone jack, The files loaded fine then disconnected the USB. Then I turn on battery power, I can trigger them, but randomly, the output from the audio jack is lost. Tried 4 different 3.5 cables and same result. Tested the Amazon Bluetooth speaker which plays audio through all of the cables from my computer. . It worked fine for well over an hour, no skips on the autio from the computer. So the cables and Speaker are not the direct cause. Checked the .OGG files and they are complete, and play correctly on my computer. Skips or lost audio happens about 3-4 times in a 1 minute 18 second .OGG. No connections to the board except power (3 AA battery pack), phone jack, and a proto board wire used to trigger the start. I tried it will earbuds plugged in and did not notice any skips. How could that happen?

@jkandler Please start a new thread four your issue.

@Proteus1985 Are you powering with something other than the same USB cable you added the files with? The board won't be in playback mode if it's still being used to copy files.

You won't be able to play audio while the board is connected to USB, so to actually trigger audio you'll need to unplug the USB cable and power it another way.

I’m using 2 AA batterys to power the board, I even tried 3 AA batterys, same outcome, so frustrating

OK, post a photo of your setup showing how everything is wired together.

There may be some soldering issues, but let's check some other things first.

Are you just manually jumpering the trigger pins to GND using the wire that's shown connect to the GND pin?

What are your filenames? What format are the files?

I am using the jumper wire to manually trigger the sound (seen in a you tube video) one end is connected to the ground, the other end I touch the top of the pin out.

Files are .ogg 16bit, files are named T00 T01 T02 T03 T04

Try grabbing the demo tracks from here:
https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-aud ... udio-files
and see if those will play.

Right my computer had decided to do an extremely long update, so it’s going to be several hours till I get to try the demo files, if they don’t work what would be the next step?

Just tried all the demo sounds, and nothing. At a complete loss, everything looks correct, all the headers are soldered, I genuinely have no idea what the problem is? Faulty board maybe?

Can you post a screen shot showing the file names on the board.
