Try turning off "hide file extensions" in Windows and check again what is shown. There have been some issues with that "feature" of Windows hiding the full filename and adding confusion.

So can I assume this is a faulty board?

It could be soldering. Let's go back to that.

Several of your pins look cold soldered with inadequate wetting out. See here:
https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-gui ... n-problems

The power pins seem to be good enough to get the power LED to come on, but worth touching up. More importantly, make sure the trigger pins are good. The G pin looks also not wetted out enough, so would prevent any pin from triggering.

Try reflowing those pins and see if that helps.

It still looks like it could be soldering. The trigger ground (G) pin looks cold soldered. And some of the trigger pins look a bit thin. Power is much more forgiving than signals in terms of soldering. So the solder on your power pins is good enough to get the green PWR LED to come on.

What are you currently using for battery power? Sounds like you tried a few things. The general recommendations are here:

I’m using 2 as batterys to power the board.

I’m off down the shop to buy a new soldering iron....

I’m using 2 as batterys to power the board.

Try also going back to the 3x battery supply you mentioned. That's the general recommendation for the board:
We recommend 3xAA or 3xAAA alkaline or rechargeable as ideal. You can use 4xAA or 4xAAA but in that case, make sure you've got rechargeable batteries, as the higher voltage alkalines may be a bit much for the board.

Lol, yes, both boards work fine now - facepalm myself, I’m using rechargeable AA’s which of course only supply 1.2v each........ when using 2 obviously your not getting your minimum 3v supply, felt like such an idiot when I realised lol but thank you for all the help
