Ok, so I don’t think I will be able to fit my wires to solder underneath that backpack. So do you have any 12c lcds you would recommend for me? Can you send me a link?

And I actually have a solderable lcd. But I don’t think it is 12c. Would a lcd without being 12c do for my project? Could I still wire it as 12c?

Here are my things I can connect to my Arduino for this lcd? I don’t see anything that looks familiar for my 12c connection. Can you tell me how to connect them?

Instructions for wiring and coding a character LCD are here: https://learn.adafruit.com/character-lcds

Thankyou, But this gets confusing because it says it instructs how to connect a pot to. Can you give me instructions on how to just connect a character lcd? Is this image is all the connections I am supposed to make?

But this gets confusing because it says it instructs how to connect a pot to.

That is because a pot is required to control the contrast. That is why we include a pot with all of our character LCDs: https://www.adafruit.com/product/181

Ok. But I don’t think I need a pot. Can you tell me all the connections I need to make for my lcd without a pot? Is my first image correct for those connections?

But I don’t think I need a pot.

You need a pot connected to pin 3 to set the LCD drive voltage which controls the contrast.
Can you tell me all the connections I need to make for my lcd without a pot?

You can try making all the connections shown in this guide except for the pot. But you probably won't be able to read the display without the pot in place.

Maybe I need a pot, but can I use something else than that?A pot is something that lets you change voltage dividers. I don’t think I need that in my project.

You can make a fixed voltage divider from a pair of resistors. But you need to determine what resistance your display requires. The simplest way to do that is to:

1) Wire it with a pot.
2) Adjust the display until it is visible
3) Remove the pot and measure the resistance between the wiper and the 2 legs.
4) Replace the pot with fixed resistors with those same resistance values.

So either way I need to get a potentiometer . So I guess I will put that on my shopping list for this project. So is that potentiometer the only extra thing I need to get to connect my lcd?

Just a pot and some wire.

So that is if I do the normal connections to the lcd. Do you have product you can recommend where I can solder my normal 12c connections. Like maybe a 12c lcd that comes with a 12c backpack I can solder?

We have an i2c backpack that can be used with the character lcd you have now. Unfortunately, they are out of stock at the moment.: https://www.adafruit.com/product/292

We also have an RGB LCD shield that can be wired for i2c: https://www.adafruit.com/product/714

Don’t worry. I found the first one on Amazon. So I guess I will get that. And when I get it you can walk me through the process of how to connect it.
