Hi! I’m going to order the PID 1713 mic and 3870 on off switch for this project. Without a mic, what is the sound source for this and how will I connect the mic when it comes?
Thanks!
From the newbie!

You can use most any sound source - as long as it has a line-level or headphone output jack. Many people use MP3 players or smart-phones.

I want to use it to pick up sounds in a room, not amplify sounds from an electronic source. Is there a way to do that?
Thanks!

You will need a microphone & microphone amp. If you are using something like this one: https://www.adafruit.com/product/1713
You can wire directly from the microphone amplifier board to the power amplifier board.

Connect GND to R- and L-.
Connect OUT tot R+ and L+

Thank you! Can I remove the headphone jack since I won’t be using it?

I’m about to solder the mic onto the power amplifier board and wondered if I jump the R- and L-pins together so they both connect to the ground? Do I do the same for the R+ and L+ that connects to the OUT?
Thanks!

I assembled the pieces for the bone conductor and jumped the negatives together and soldered the positives together for the mic. Tried turning it on and nothing happened when I turned it on and talked into the mic. I tried switching the on/off switch both ways. Help!
Thanks!

You have no power to the microphone. You need to connect power to the VDD pin.

It also looks like a lot of cold joints. And some joints do not appear to be soldered at all.
