Prop maker light saber hardware

by redmarien80 on Fri May 29, 2020 10:25 am

Hello all,

I don't know if this is the right forum to ask my questions.

I would like to build the lightsaber from Adafruit. It states to use the feather M4 Express, which is currently pretty much unavailable everywhere. Can I use the M0 instead or any of the other feather boards?

This would be my first electronics project, so this will be a huge learning curve For me as I also don't know how to solder (yet).

Any advice or pointers in the right direction highly appreciated.

I would start with some simpler kits to work on your soldering skills. This would be a good start: https://www.adafruit.com/product/89.

As for the board. Production is ramping up again so hopefully boards will be available before much longer. The problem with subbing in an M0 board is that it has significantly less memory which means less code will fit. An nRF52840 https://www.adafruit.com/product/4516 will work well (and is in stock at the moment). it'll give you bluetooth to play with as well.
