Raspberry pi 4 wont power gpio pins

by AnthongRedbeard on Wed Jun 03, 2020 11:39 am

I bought a new raspberry pi 4 4gb with official powersupply here.

when I connect it to fans on gpio it doesnt work. the fans work on older raspberry pi i have.
I looked at it with a multimeter, nothing.

what could this be? anything I can do?

I loaded the latest raspbian, and if I connect a display it loads up fine.

Hello AnthongRedbeard,

What is the pinout on your fan connector? On other Pi4 fan addon boards I see GPIO #4 (5v) and GPIO #6 (GND) being used. It looks like your fan board has 3 connectors. Which model is the fan add on?

only 2 pins, gpio 4 and 5 with power on 4... it looks weird because it has 2 fans and they both have wires that go to the same pins. I tried some other thins on the board too

It is GPIO 4 and GPIO 6. Youu could also try GPIO 2 (5v) [red] and GPIO 6 (GND) [black]. These pinouts are the same between the Pi 3 and Pi 4.

Go ahead and try to run rpi-update and reboot the Pi. Maybe it is stuck in a low power mode or a different kernel update could help? Can you tell how much current the fans can draw from their label?
