USB C Round Panel Mount Extension Cable - PRODUCT ID: 4218 P

We ordered these cables to try out with our appliance - still waiting somebody from support to reply regarding panel cut measurements (how hard it was giving that it is Adafruit product?), so it was faster to just order and measure. BUT, there is a bigger problem with this cable assembly - IT IS NOT USB-C pin-to-pin cable. So, here is the thing - we have TB3 based appliance (Thungerbolt 3) and needed something panel mount where this particular product did fit perfectly, at least mechanically. The point is that by standard ANY USB-C qualified cable should work with TB3 (driving speed to 20 Gb/s from 40 Gb/s - all depends on quality of conductors and shielding). So far any USB-C extension cable from supplier5s that we tried did work just fine, and this one does not - nothing is detected on a host side. It does work USB 3.0, but looks like has an issue with USB 3.1 and TB3. We strongly suspect that there are some conductors missing in this cable. Adafruit should not advertise it as USB-C because it is not, or at least update spec and say that it is good only for USB up-to 3.0, but incompatible with USB 3. and TB3. Money wasted on 5 cables that went to the "other" stuff bin in our office. Very frustrating.

Same thing - no any difference. We see TB3 gadget "powers up" but no detection on host side, which means that TB3 appliance "sees" that it is connected to TB3 bus, but no communication/handshake happens after that. So far your cable does not work with the following TB3 gadgets that tied it with:

1) TB3 PCIe extension enclosure
2) TB3 GPU extension enclosure
3) Any TB3 SSD storage (these small enclosures that have TB3 interface to NVME SSD)

Tried so far with different Mac laptops and Dell XPS 13/15 (all of them do have TB3 interface).

Bottom line is the following - if USB-C cable is done correctly in terms of conductors vs USB-C connectors, ANY TB3 device should work with it. As stated - it looks like your manufacturer did "cut" some corners, or didn't route conductors correctly. Take any TB3 gadget (like for example https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DH ... UTF8&psc=1 ) and try yourself. The same devices do work just fine with other USB-C cables vendors (like DataPro or Startech) - yours just happen to be suitable for nice panel mount application, which is our case.

Hope it will help you to debug and fix cables (we expect that other USB-C cables/adapters will have the same issue). Ask your manufacturer to provide you with wiring diagram - maybe you will see an issue right away.

oh you are trying to use thunderbolt? these are definitely not thunderbolt compatible - USB C 3.x is not thunderbolt compatible. its very confusing - these are not for display usages, you need special cables for those

see our guide here. you need to get special cables that are designed for thunderbolt - you will pay more too!

https://learn.adafruit.com/understandin ... ifferences

if you cant use the adapters - email support@adafruit for a refund and purchase the adapters/cables you need elsewhere.

thx
