Resister to Jumper Cable

by Dekaner on Fri Jul 10, 2020 9:04 pm

Need a little help as I'm unfamiliar with the product options. I need to connect a resistor to two pins on a board with a 2x6 male short header. Will I be able to push the resister through this housing pack or should I pick up jumper wires and solder directly to that? Thanks in advance!

I can't quite picture what you're wanting to do. Your goal is to connect each end of the resistor to pins? Can you show a photo of the board you want to connect to.

Thanks for the quick response. I need to jump pins 1-6 here with a 100 ohm resistor. I'm trying to find a way to do it without soldering directly to the header. Image of the board attached.

Thanks. It's clear now. So, no, you can't just push the resistor through the holes in the housing and get a reliable connection. I would the jumper wires (female ends) that go with those housings, cut 2, leaving a bit of wire to solder the resistor to.

BTW those wire & housing products are incredibly handy to have around.

Thanks! Something like this? Just cut the wire and then solder the resistor in between? I'll also pick up some heat shrink tubing to cover anything left exposed.

Premium Female/Female Jumper Wires - 20 x 6" (150mm)

Should I worry about a single lead not having enough friction to keep it mounted? Would something like this be better as it would be more solid?

Really appreciate your help.

Well, that's 2mm pitch, and by the look of the board and your talking about the housings, I think you want .1" pitch. Be careful about that when ordering... I've been burned before by being sloppy about that sort of thing. Something like https://www.adafruit.com/product/4156 would work. They're easily trimmed if you pull out the pin and use wire cutters to snip where the hole is.

But yes, that will give you a much more solid physical and electrical connection.
