Control LED string with Cap touch

by JWBarry on Mon Jul 13, 2020 1:27 pm

Hi,

A newbie to electronics. I'm planning to switch battery power to a short LED string using a cap touch sensor. Power is coming from 4 li-ion cells in series (16.8V max). The plan was to power the cap touch breakout board using a DC/DC and then use the cap touch output to drive a PN2222 to act as a switch to turn on/off the power from the pack to the LED string. Am i on the right track with this ?

Thanks,John

What are the current requirements of the LED string? A PN2222 can handle up to about 600mA or so.

I'm only running 3 feet at most. the rating on the LEDs is 2.4W/ft. So i come up with 2.4 W/ft X 3ft /12VDC = 600mA. Looks like I'll be OK.
