Having issues with an LED circuit

by Polarkey on Tue Jul 21, 2020 3:55 pm

So I’m pretty new to this, and I’ve tried to do a fair amount of research. The project I’m trying to do is fairly ambitious so I’ve been trying to practice with somebody test circuits first. I’m trying to wire a LED strip light to an Arduino Uno, so I can program the lights to do cool stuff (I at least have some experience with code)
For the first test bit I didn’t input anything into the Arduino, just did a rough mock circuit without any heat shrink around the soldered bits. But when I plugged it all in and added the battery pack, the light didn’t work! I have no idea what I’m doing wrong and I would really appreciate some help! Below I included pictures of some of the soldering, including the resistors I added (as a last ditch effort, I did try without them too) and the LED strip itself because I don’t even know if they’re the problem

The soldering looks fine. Just be careful about all that bare wire. Shorts are bad news.

What you have is a strip of Neopixels. They won't do anything if you just hook them up. They need a data signal from the controller. Please have a read through https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-neopixel-uberguide.

Ah!! Thank you! I figured that could be the issue but I was worried I did something wrong or got the wrong thing!
