Which perfboard can fit the small plastic enclosure without

by policenauts on Mon Jul 27, 2020 1:01 pm

Hello,

I am interested in recreating what this person has done: https://www.hackster.io/saka/alexa-voic ... dvd-87fff1

It looks like it's a small Adafruit plastic enclosure: https://www.adafruit.com/product/903. And that he's taken a perfboard and attached it to the enclosure by screwing it into one of the middle holes.

My question is, which perfboards can fit this enclosure and also has a screw that lines up without modification?

I know that the perma proto board (which I love the look of) does fit, but it requires sanding down and also enlarging the hole which I don't want to do (like this person did: https://learn.adafruit.com/trinket-powe ... play/build). I'd also be interested in an enclosure that can fit the perma proto board without having to modify the perma protoboard.

Thank you!

If you don't want to do any modification at all, you'd probably have to use the 1/4 size Perma-proto:

Thank you, but does the middle screw hole of the quarter size line up with the one in the small enclosure? Wouldn't I run into the same issue of having to shave down the corners?

Or is there a different enclosure that would work for the quarter size?

You'd still have to trim the Perma-Proto to make the existing mounting holes fit the lugs in the enclosure, but you could use other ways to mount the board.. hot-melt gluing in a couple of new standoffs that fit the quarter-size board would be the simplest.

The large enclosure will fit a full-size Perma-Proto:

https://www.adafruit.com/product/905

A half-size Perma-Proto will easily fit in either of our extruded aluminum enclosures or the transparent-topped tin:

https://www.adafruit.com/product/2229
https://www.adafruit.com/product/2230
https://www.adafruit.com/product/1471

And we have a Perma-Proto specifically designed to fit in an Altoids tin:
