Adafruit Push-button Power Switch: question

by michcfr on Mon Jul 27, 2020 7:30 pm

Hello,

The description states that when 1 or more volts is applied to the KILL pin, it will instantly turn off the FET even if the button is pressed.
Does it works for the inverse situation: when GND is applied to the KILL pin, it will turn on the system even if the button is pressed?

If not, is there any solution?

thx

Regards
Michel

I'm afraid not.

The KILL pin is connected to a transistor that locks one side of the flip-flop to GND. An input voltage higher than 1V turns the transistor on, locks the output in the OFF state, and makes it impossible to change the flip-flop's state.

Connecting KILL to GND turns the transistor off, and has no effect on the rest of the circuit. The transistor has to be off for the rest of the circuit to work.
