Friction drive roller for Nema 17?

by octoshaw on Thu Jul 30, 2020 6:10 pm

Hi there.

I'm building a turntable project and am looking for a rubberized "friction roller"/"contact wheel" that will fit the 5mm shaft on my Nema 17 stepper motor - and yep, I'm aware that steppers are typically meant for timing pulleys or other more accurate drive connections :)

I've trawled Amazon and Aliexpress with no luck - maybe my search terminology is wrong? I did find some rollers on the Master-Carr site, but they are all non-metric shaft sizes (and surprisingly pricey). I need a 5mm shaft with set screw and about a 10mm tall, ~15mm diameter roller.

Any suggestions welcome!

Thanks.

One point of vocabulary: "NEMA-17" doesn't describe the motor, only the pattern of bolt holes on the faceplate.

Stock Drive Products calls the thing you want a 'feed roller':

They're another industrial supplier, and not cheap.

Thanks for the heads up Mike - was wondering about that.
Feed roller seem to do the trick.

Cheers!
