Anemometers for recharging batteries?

Post by kevinjwalters »

Are there any affordable (weatherproofed) anemometers which can both measure wind speed and provide a bit of current for recharging batteries? I'd ll have a noodle around for maritime solutions for this but I suspect they'll be a bit pricey and maybe the preference is solar-only nowadays?

I don't think you'd find an inexpensive solution that was calibrated but you could use a motor to generate a voltage and quantify that to indicate speed.

I bought a second-hand Thames and Kosmos Wind Power kit but haven't had time to play with it to see if I can adapt it for some minor external power generation.

I just noticed Sparkfun are selling a set of meteorological sensors: Weather Meter Kit. It sounds like it's a switched output so not suitable for scrounging power but it looks fun.
