Digital potentiometer - DS1841 (operate at 12v)

Post by brendonshaw1703 »

I would like to control a device using analogue voltage, I have purchase the DS1841 but cannot operate from 12v. The data sheets states there is a resistor between RW and RH, connecting RH to 5v it works and can change the pot value. When I connect 12v to RH, it fails to communicate on i2c and if I unplug & re-plug in the 12v to RH I only get a maximum of 5V range. Looking at the circuit diagram, RH is not connected to Vcc so unsure why it does not work with a 12v supply.

I am wondering if there is an internal flag to switch between the Vcc supply and RH.

Any help would be highly appreciated.

The absolute maximum rating for RH is VCC + 0.5v. See the top of page 2 of the datasheet: https://datasheets.maximintegrated.com/en/ds/DS1841.pdf
