SMD cross reference?

by TroyO on Tue Nov 16, 2010 3:37 pm

I'm getting the feeling that a lot of these SMD package names I'm coming across are the same thing physically and different manufactureres are just calling them different things.

Is that the case? Is a SSOP and TSSOP and SOP and a SOIC really pretty much the same thing? Or am I missing something inportand about the package names... which seem kind of random at the moment, LOL.

Anyone know if there is a handy reference that tells you what names each one goes by? What about maybe a relative size chart?

I've never found a chart, and I've looked. What I have found, however, is Wikipedia:

SSOP
TSOP
SOIC
TSSOP

I used to think it was appalling that Wikipedia is the best source of information on some of these things. Now I think it's appalling when Wikipedia isn't...

Awesome... for some reason it never occured to me to look it up on WikiPedia, LOL! Thank you!

For starters, I was able to verify that SO-XX, SOXX, SOIC-XX and SOICXX are all the same thing which helps on my immediate project.
