What did LadyAda Say?

by stinkbutt on Sun Nov 21, 2010 10:41 pm

In the Ask an Engineer chat on Saturday, November 10th, 2010, at around the 0:51:00 mark, I asked a question about using a capacitor to delay an active-low signal, and this was LadyAda's response:

0:51:00 ...You might need a diode also just to make sure you only feed current into the capacitor,
I mean you charge the capacitor up really fast but then you don't discharge it too fast.
I'd have to draw a schematic which I don't have time for. I think [inaudible - sounds like "Morrison & Heller"]
has a little bit of stuff on this, and you can look online. It's not unusual to make a delay line using
an RC filter with a diode, to delay a reset pin from a power pin or something.
Look for reset delay lines for microcontrollers...

What, exactly, was the part I wasn't able to transcribe? Does anybody know what she was talking about? Who're Morrison & Heller? Did Jim Morrison & Thomas Heller do electronics?

Shit, that's what I was afraid of. Nothing useful I could find in Art of Electronics the first time I looked. I guess I'll have to look more carefully.

Yeah, that's pretty much how it works with that book.

you can also google for stuff like "RC reset delay line microcontrollers" as suggested
