RFID for hobbyist use

by zener on Wed Dec 01, 2010 1:15 am

Are there any easy to use RFID tags and readers? Just a passive tag that spits out an ID number when interrogated at close range, like a few inches.

Here a tag, there a tag...

Sparkfun's also got a couple of other readers. Smaller footprints, but that means smaller antennas, so much less range.

Oh, and if you don't want to get one of those tags, you could just spoof your own.

I've used the ID-12 that Sparkfun carries (http://www.sparkfun.com/products/8419). It's very easy to use.
The breakout board for this reader is also useful: http://www.sparkfun.com/products/8423
