LCD Partial Row Display

by quasilister on Sun Dec 05, 2010 1:20 pm

Hello,

I am following ladyada's tutorial (http://www.ladyada.net/learn/lcd/charlcd.html) to get an LCD working with an arduino and I think I may have a defective LCD screen. I have attached an image which shows just part of the screen working. Ladyada says that the bottom row should be filled. Mine, however, displays only 8, and those are partially filled. Any suggestions?

Looking at the tutorial it is the top row that should be lit. if all your wiring is correct you may have a bad display, check your wiring carefully. (there isn't much but check anyway)

Can you post high-res images of your soldering of the header pins, top and bottom?

That display looks pretty bad. Where did you get it? I never saw one look quite like that. Have you tried turning it off and on again?
