I’m trying to figure out the best way to get to portable 12v.
As this is for a child’s costume, weight and size is a concern.
Obviously 8-AA is probably the most straight forward. But size and weight makes this pack impractical.
I’ve considered 3-3.7v lipoly. (https://www.adafruit.com/product/2750) in series. I absolutely would NOT charge them in series (https://learn.adafruit.com/li-ion-and-l ... tery-packs). Rather charge them individually. Although I’m getting the general sense from enough posts that putting lipoly into series is generally frowned on.
I’ve come across a 6v alkaline - A544 which is rated for 140mah. 2 of these in series sound promising. Obviously it wouldn’t last very long.
Any other options or suggestions based on the three above?

I had no luck with a 9v battery.

Pololu has a range of boost converters that might work for you. Keep in mind that there is no free power, so a boost in voltage means a proportional reduction in current (plus efficiency losses in the conversion process). https://www.pololu.com/product/2117
So to get 12V out at 100mA, you would probably need something closer to 400mA @ 3.7v. But there are plenty of relatively compact LiPo cells capable of that.
