BQ24074 indicator LEDs

Post by bcschmi »

Hi, I am working on a charging board for lithium ion batteries. I’ve chosen the BQ24074 from TI.

In the BQ24074 data sheet, the reference schematic has two indicator LEDs, one for charge status and one for when a suitable power supply is connected (Pgood). Both are open drain outputs. If I didn’t want to use the Pgood LED could I just leave that pin floating?

Yes, open drain means that it will be connected to ground when active, and not connected to anything when inactive (as opposed to being a logic signal: i.e. High/Low). If you don't need/want to use it, leave it unconnected.

You can see them used on the breakout schematic: https://learn.adafruit.com/assets/94727.
