Here's a neat video I saw on YouTube.

The thing I'm trying to do is from 13:27 to 17 minutes of it.
Would this part (https://www.adafruit.com/product/2992) work for that?
It looked like the same thing, but I just wanted to confirm that.

Re: Can I do this?
Most probably, but I think all these triple USB+Ethernet hubs are cursed. I feel the chipset used is of very debatable quality. I bought 4! over the past year from different brands, and all have dead ethernet ports now, they only stay working as USB hub. I replaced them now with the over-expensive and less handy Apple version:

or
https://www.apple.com/shop/product/MC70 ... et-adapter
Apple does not have a USB-C version yet, but sells this:
https://www.apple.com/shop/product/HJKF ... et-adapter
I have good experience with Belkin as well.

Re: Can I do this?
Hi blnkjns & freddyboomboom,
I hope you are both doing well.
First, I wanted to say thank you both so much for your helpful posts. I truly appreciated both of your guys' insights and advice -- particularly blnkjns' advice about staying clear of the Adafruit version (which has a habit of dying due to what sounded like a faulty part).
Knowing that, I took blnkjns' advice to keep looking for more high quality parts and found these parts here.
Those parts would be as follows:
*https://www.amazon.com/dp/B083M1S6QT/re ... UTF8&psc=1
Again, thank you both for your time. I truly appreciated it and am excited to see how those parts work.
Also, if you get a chance, you should totally try Star Tech. To help me figure out the solution mentioned above, one of their techies spent 40 minutes with me on the phone -- and half of the recommendations he gave me weren't even for a part his company sold (so he found it elsewhere for me) -- Star Tech is totally awesome!
Anyways, this was totally a group effort -- and again, I'm very grateful for both of y'all's time.
Best,
Byron

That cable is the same kind of cable, maybe from the same manufacturer and vendor even, that I used to try to expand the storage in my Fire TV stick.
I wish you better luck than I had. :)

Re: Can I do this?
Thanks freddyboomboom. Again, I truly appreciated both you and blnkjns' advice and insight. I forgot to mention in my last message that your tip on thinking about adapters was really helpful as well. That's something that would never have occurred to me to be necessary without your mentioning the adapter.
As you correctly pointed out, maybe none of this will work -- and that's totally fine if it doesn't.
But if you take one thing from this message, please let it be that I'm very grateful to you and Blinkjns for your guys' time and advice. Thanks so much again.
Best,
Byron

Re: Can I do this?
I've had decent luck with Star-Tech stuff in the past. Not the best stuff, but decent.
As long as you know going into it that it may not work, and you're in it for the journey as much as the destination, that's good.
However it turns out, come back and let us know. Expanding knowledge is what places like Adafruit and this forum are all about.
I do appreciate your kind words. They are rare, and always a pleasure to read.

Thanks freddyboomboom. I appreciate your help and will definitely let you guys know how it goes when the parts come (going to order them soon).
Best, and I hope all is well.

Re: Can I do this?
Hi y'all,
Just following up to let you know the news.
That is that -- unfortunately -- the project didn't work.
Although the project didn't work, the good news is that -- what we really wanted has happened -- we have our beloved Roku back.
I'm embarrassed to admit this, but -- as it turns out -- the problem with the Roku wasn't the Wifi after all, but rather, that I had been reading a several-years old password and trying to enter it (which is really embarrassing, that I could screw up that badly as to spend so much time on a wild goose chase when the solution was, if not staring me in the face, simply written on another family member's computer).
*#&$ me for doing that -- but nonetheless, my being a total &#($ resulted in an interesting experiment and getting to interact with some really nice and helpful people like yourselves on the internet -- and for that, I'm grateful.
Hope all's well and thank you so much again for your guys' insight and advice.
Wishing y'all my best.
