Got new MacBook Air (no built in USB) and using third party hub with 2 USB ports. The set up (upload) used to work on my old MacBook Pro (w/ built in USB port).
Got this error message: avrdude: ser_open(): can't open device "/dev/cu.usbmodem11201": No such file or directory
Searched on the web, and had tried a few tricks, including:
1.disconnecting and reconnecting the USB cable, making sure it's in
2.Press the reset button
3.Make sure having the right Arduino board selected
4.making sure you have the correct port selected
Test on the old MacBook Pro, no problem uploading. So, I begin to to think it's the hub problem. Got this Hyper Duo 7-in-2USB-C hub, which has HDMI, a couple chip reader, and a couple USB. Any suggestion other than go get a straight USB-C to USB adapter from Apple? thanks.
Possible MacBook Air hub problem? or not

Can you test what the computer calls the USB hub ports? And did you check to see if you can communicate with the USB ports with some other program?

I just learned that I can/ should try "Coolterm" to do what you asked. I will go figure out how to do that.

Re: Possible MacBook Air hub problem? or not
Problem solved. All it take is a straight Apple USB_C to single USB adapter. I should have known better. But Apple doesn't sell the hub (combination of ports) I want/ needed. That's the reason I didn't go with apple hub to begin with.
