Macropad neopixels have gone dark

Post by rcbuse »

I've been using the macropad for a 2 weeks now without any issues. I've had it hooked to two Stemma QT Encoder's and two NeoKey 1x4's and that has been working well, up until tonight. From the corner of my eye I saw a bright blue flash and then all but one of the neopixels have gone dark. To make sure it wasn't some code issue, I disconnected everything off of I2C and ran the standard macropad_rp2040_demo.uf2. When it was new the demo cycled all the neopixels, but as the attached picture shows, just sadness now. Everything else on the board checks out as still working.

Any suggestions?

My first thought is a connection issue with the first (the one still working) and/or second (the first one not working) NeoPixel. Do a close visual inspection of the soldering of those neopixels to the board. Post clear closeup photos is possible.

Soldering looks good. However there is certainly something visibly different about neopixel 1

I am wondering about the connections on the second NeoPixel. You might try touch the two pins that face the first NeoPixel briefly with your iron tip to melt/reflow the solder.

Let me know if that doesn't fix it or if you're not set up to do it.

Resoldered all the connections on the neopixel 1 but no luck.

OK, could be a bad pixel.

Please email [email protected] with a link to this thread, your order number, and request the replacement of one Macropad RP2040.
