Components - Need Suggestions on What to Buy

by njbair on Thu Feb 10, 2011 7:13 pm

I'm new to electronics as a hobby and at present have only a little time to spend on it. I want to stock up on component parts so that when I do sit down to experiment, I have the things I need. Here's what I have:

  • Arduino Uno Experimentation Kit
Including Proto shield, LoL shield, & spare ATMEGA328 chip
  • YBox2
  • FTDI Friend
  • Large breadboard & several blank PCBs
  • Wide assortment of resistors (Digi-Key kit)
  • Small assortment of pots, caps, LEDs, & switches
  • 16x2 Character LCD
  • Various audio connectors

I am mostly interested in experimenting with music, audio, and video--not much into servos/moving parts at this point. I'm looking for suggestions on kits containing other components that would prove helpful for this. I imagine I'll want a wider variety of caps; maybe some op-amps, inductors, and transistors; and even some useful ICs. What do you all think?

Get the Music & Sound Add-on Pack for the Arduino so you can play out audio. It's mostly the Wave Shield plus a couple of sundry items you'd need to buy to make the Wave Shield work before you got started anyway. You've already got the LCD so you can do (primitive) video, and that's your start.
Red M&M, Blue M&M: They all wind up the same color
